Chippa United striker, George Akpabio, could be returning to Ajax Cape Town at the end of the season, despite interest from the Chilli Boys to retain him. The Nigerian, who is on loan at Chippa from Ajax, has been in a rich vein of form for the Philippi-based side that recently won promotion to the PSL this past weekend.
The striker is the second highest goalscorer in the NFD with 11 goals. The player’s agent, Mohammed Lawal, confirmed to the Siya crew that there is interest to keep the player at Chippa permanently, although Ajax is keen to have him back.
“Chippa is interested in keeping the player because the boy is a proven goalscorer. He scored 13 goals for Vasco da Gama last season. He has already scored 11 goals this season and the season is not yet over. He scored 19 goals before he arrived here from Nigeria. Sometimes the clubs or coaches are not patient. That is what happened with Ajax.
"I’m not happy at all with what they did to George. When George came here it was in the second round of the season. He signed in January or February and played until the end of the second half of the season. The boy was looking forward to playing with Ajax. They loaned him to Vasco. He scored goals for Vasco and returned to Ajax and hoped for a chance. He was loaned out to Chippa.
"They should have belief in the boy. I’m not happy. If you loan a player you should look at the number of goals he scored and give him a chance. There were strikers that didn’t score up to four goals in the season and they kept them.
"I don’t understand because the boy didn’t score the goals somewhere else. He scored right there in Cape Town,” said Lawal.
