Hunt On Chiefs/Bucs Targets: “We Can’t Lose Them Now…”
There’s just over three weeks left of the South African transfer window, and it appears that anyone looking to land Thulani Hlatshwayo or Thabang Monare will have to look elsewhere.
Hlatshwayo, who captained Bafana Bafana at the recent African Cup of Nations, has been heavily linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, while Monare – a star player for the Clever Boys – has made his way onto the radar of both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Despite the speculation, the duo have both started Wits’ opening two games of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season, and their head coach has insisted that neither of them is going anywhere – insisting that they are unaffected by the transfer talk.
Speaking to the media after this week’s 1-0 defeat to Baroka, Hunt said, “Yeah, they’re fine, the boys are fine… Obviously it is disturbing when you open up the football papers and there’s a story about one of them. It’s disturbing, but they talk to me, I talk to them, and I’ll always give them the best advice.
“We can’t lose them now… If we really hit the skids then we’ll have to sell somebody, but no, it’s not that bad.”
Meanwhile, the Wits coach also confirmed that Sifiso Hlanti’s knee injury is not as bad as originally feared, saying, “Basically he’s jogging again, but twisting and turning is going to take a bit of time. I think he needs another month or so.”
Next up for Wits is a another league game against Polokwane City next Wednesday as they look to get their second win of the season.
