Furman: It Is Devastating

The national team Bafana Bafana were beaten 3-1 on penalties by Mali and eventually knocked out of the Afcon tournament in the quarter-finals in a game played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

One of the players who missed the penalty was Dean Furman who told the Siya crew that it was devastating to lose the game in that way.

The Oldham Atheltic captain however said that the team should focus on the future as they still have important tournaments to play.

He said that the players thank the whole country for their support and urged them to continue rallying behind the team at all times.

"It is devastating. It is so painful. Personally I feel very bad to have missed the penalty. In the game we played very well and we could have wrapped it up in the 90 minutes but it wasn't to be. I can't reflect on the whole tournament right now as I am still devastated. After few days I will look back and see what I have achieved. But as a team we have to look at the future and build on this performance in the World Cup qualifiers. We still have important games to play and we need to put out feet on the ground going forward," the England based midfielder concluded.
