FS Stars Grab Win At Arrows

ABSA Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 0-1 Free State Stars

Date: 18 September 2013

Venue: King Zwelithini Stadium

Free State Stars grabbed a 1-0 away at Golden Arrows, after scoring early and then holding out against a wasteful Arrows team who couldn't find a goal, despite dominating the second-half.

Arrows had almost 20 attempts at goal, compared to just four from the visitors.

The opening minutes saw both sides getting chances to go forward but they weren't breaking through in the final third, and neither goalkeepers were troubled.

But then in the 9th minute Enva Wiltwer, got the ball out wide, and delivered a good cross into the box where Abdul Basit Adam headed the ball home to give FS Stars a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later Lucky Nguzana could have equalized from a Philani Shange corner, but his attempt went wide to the left.

In the 16th minute, Shange delivered in a good free kick after a foul on Bongi Ntuli by Sadat Ouko-Akoriko. Shange's delivery found Vuyusile Ntombayithethi but his attempted header flew over the bar

Two minutes later Danny Venter had a chance to double the lead, but his shot went well wide.

In the 25th minute Gift Sithole had a chance from another Shange free kick but his header also flew wide.

Both sides continued to press for a goal, but the first-half turned into a stop-start affair, with 20 fouls in total, and Ea Lla Koto caught off-sides six times.

And with both sides just getting three shots at goal, the score remained 1-0 to Free State Stars at half-time.

Manqoba Mngqithi brought on Nkanyiso Madonsela  at the start of the second-half to replace Rudolf Bester.

In the 50th minute Ntombayithethi forced Daniel Agyei to make a diving save, the first time the Stars keeper had to stop a real effort from Arrows.

In the 60th minute with Arrows now pressing and shooting more, Mzuvikile Tom's effort was blocked by Ouko-Akoriko and Nguzana's effort went wide. Ouko-Akoriko was back in the thick of things three minutes later as he blocked Sithole's effort.

Madonsela had two efforts at goal in two minutes, the first in the 67th minute was blocked by Soriola Gege and then his free kick effort in the 69th minute flew over the crossbar.

Agyei was back in the action in the 75th minute as he saved a shot, this time from Ntuli. Mngqithi then subbed his sub, as Welcome Qalanto  replaced Madonsela three minutes later.

Ntuli had another effort in the 87th minute, but his shot went wide, and had another in stoppage time but it was saved by Agyei.
