Fransman: Mame Made The Difference

SuperSport United’s Bevan Fransman admits second half substitute Mame Niang made all the difference in his side’s 2-1 Absa Premiership win over Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

The first 45 minutes saw Matsatsantsa largely on the back foot as Pirates dictated terms, but were unable to breach a stubborn United defence.

The second half, however, saw coach Cavin Johnson make a change with Niang coming on for David Mathebula and then finding the opening goal in the 56th minute.

“When Mame (Niang) came in he gave us another dimension to our game,” said Fransman.

“It was tough out there, they picked us up well and closed us down very, very quickly in the first half.

“They were all over us in the first half, but in the second half we used Mame’s strength and he got the goal.”

Fransman was given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his efforts in defence, but he says the three points was the most important thing on the day.

“The points are more valuable than the ‘Man of the Match’ award,” added Fransman.

“The guys put in a massive shift today, each and every one of our players, right from the front all the way to the back and even Ronwen (Williams) pulled off some fantastic saves.

“It was a good game for us and to walk away with the three points is a bonus.
