Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Francis Chansa, calls for Brilliant Khuzwayo to be given a chance to finally make his official debut for the Soweto giants.
Chansa is concerned that the former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper is yet to make his official debut for Bucs, with the 2018/19 season already in its latter stages.
Although he recovered from injury and played for Bucs’ reserves in some of their MultiChoice Diski Challenge matches, Khuzwayo was said to be not yet ready for competitive PSL football prior to the Soweto Derby on February 09.
Chansa feels that the time is right for the 29-year-old to show what he can do for the Buccaneers.
“Clubs like Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and (Mamelodi) Sundowns and SuperSport (United) are the teams of competition, and I’m saying this about them not only for here but in Africa as well. They are very strong teams. I have never been jealous in my life and I will say it as it is, the point of signing Khuzwayo was for him to play. He is there now and nothing can change, so they should play him. He needs to be given a chance, he has been playing in the MDC, and now is the right time for the goalkeeper coach to recommend that he gets his chance to play. He needs to be given a chance in two or three games so that people can see what he can do for the team,” said Chansa.
“Khuzwayo is a good goalkeeper who comes from a big club in Kaizer Chiefs. I think he is looking forward to playing now at Pirates. But he has to be given a chance. It was always going to be very difficult for him to just get into the team and play. He’s got Sandilands, Mabokgwane and Mpontshane, they are all experienced goalkeepers. I feel that now should be his chance to play,” added the ex-keeper.
