It was revealed that the seven men who will run for the position are Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan, UEFA’s general secretary, Gianni Infantino, Liberian FA president, Musa Bility, AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, Frenchman, Jérôme Champagne, South African, Tokyo Sexwale and currently suspended UEFA president, Michel Platini.

The African football body will have substantial sway in the FIFA elections given that there are 54 nations within CAF, and a statement today revealed that Sheikh Salman, Prince Ali, Infantino and Sexwale have already been in contact with regards to their specific bids.

CAF stated that they would now take their time to make up their minds on who to back for the elections, explaining that. “After discussions with these figures, the Executive Committee of CAF unanimously decided to leave the administrative procedures for registration of candidates to take their course, giving them plenty of time to make their decision with the primary interests of the continent.”

The elections to decide who will replace Sepp Blatter as President of World football’s governing body will take place on February 26th.
