Modabi On Why Mntambo Would Be A Good Buy For Pirates
Former Pirates Midfielder Weighs In On Linda Mntambo Transfer Talk
Linda Mntambo would be a good buy for Orlando Pirates, according to a former midfielder who previously played for the Soweto giants.
As reported by the Siya crew, The Buccaneers are believed to be closing in on Mntambo, who has excelled with his fine performances in Chippa United midfield in the short period of time (half of a season) he has been with the club in his very first PSL season.
Gerald Modabi, who played for Pirates between 2006 and 2008, says a move for Mntambo to Bucs would benefit the club.
“Number one – Linda Mntambo would be a good buy for Pirates. Number two – He is more mobile than Xola Mlambo. Number three – He’s got physical presence, which is one of the attributes needed in a player to play for a club like Pirates,” said Modabi.
Mntambo scored five goals (three in the league and two in the Nedbank Cup) from midfield, during the five months he has been with the club.
Modabi says he has advised the player on the things to do to make a success of his promising career.
“I had an opportunity to speak to him (Mntambo) about Jomo Cosmos at Sipho Mngomezulu’s mother’s funeral a while back. We spoke at length. It was actually more of me talking to him and laying down the law on discipline at that level of football – professional level. I was encouraging him to be better where some of us failed because of obvious conduct reasons. It’s clear that he listened because he went on and showed it at both Cosmos and Chippa United by getting better with each and every game he plays,” Modabi told the Siya crew.
