Vincent Pule, Chiefs’ Loss & Bucs’ Gain, Legend Weighs In

A move to a club overseas has been predicted for Vincent Pule by a former Orlando Pirates striker, who has been impressed with the player’s performances in Milutin Sredojevic’s team so far this season.

Since joining Pirates after leaving Bidvest Wits at the end of last season, Pule has been one of the influential players for the Soweto giants.

Having spent four seasons at Wits under the renowned coach in Gavin Hunt, it came as no surprise when the PSL’s big guns came knocking for the player’s services, following the progress he made in his career at the Sturrock Park outfit.

Initially, it was thought that the 26-year-old would join Bucs’ perennial rivals at Kaizer Chiefs after reports indicated that Amakhosi had snapped up the player on a pre-contract, during the course of last season.

However, as it is now known, it later turned out that Pule signed a contract with Pirates, a deal seen by many in the football fraternity as Chiefs’ loss and Bucs’ gain, with the player having so far lived up to expectations with his performances for Sredojevic’s team.

Former Pirates striker Andries Sebola, who predicted a good season for Pule after he joined the club, has been impressed with the player’s progress.

“He must put his feet on the on the ground because the journey ahead of him is a long one. Pirates is not an easy team to please. When you promise the supporters that you are going to deliver you must keep on delivering. I’m happy for him because the boy is still young and he looks like he is grounded, and doesn’t listen to people with bad behaviour from outside, and doesn’t associate with them. He must keep grounded, work hard and listen to senior players at Pirates and he will go far,” Sebola told the Siya crew.

With regards to whether the player made a right move with joining Bucs instead of Amakhosi, the former striker has no doubt that Pule’s choice was a perfect one for his career.

“Pirates is a suitable team for him, especially if you can check the midfielders that are supplying him with passes – I mean the (Xola) Mlambos and the (Thabo) Matlabas have been playing good passes to him. It’s a matter of him just to position himself and to use his chances whenever they are there for him. He must keep on scoring goals. He was in Bafana Bafana and unfortunately, he picked up a bad injury. I wish him a speedy recovery and he must keep on working hard,” he said.

“It’s not about Chiefs only. Wits lost, Chiefs lost and it was Pirates' gain. The boy won’t stay long at Pirates, mark my words. You can see that he’s got good height and good speed and skill. So, I won’t be surprised if follows the likes of Percy Tau and others outside the country,” concluded the legend.

Edward ‘Magents’ Motale, who is another former Pirates player, as well as the club’s youth academy director Augusto Palacios, and prominent Pirates supporter Jwara, have also weighed in on Pule’s contribution to the team so far this season in a feature on him in edition 1094 of Soccer Laduma.
