Gaston Sirino’s name has come up among those of players seen as having performed above the rest while also impressing for their teams this season.
With the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season nearing an end, as teams are left with under 10 rounds of fixtures until the May 11 finish date, the likes of Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Themba Zwane are some of the players whose names have been bandied about for potential Player of the Season nominations.
For his performances from the 18 starts he made from 23 league matches for coach Pitso Mosimane’s side, Sirino has impressed ex-Downs midfielder Tyren Arendse.
“There’s been a few (players that have been impressive this season), but I’ll have to say Sirino from Sundowns. I think he has been marvellous to watch. I think he’s been sort of an influence and that’s why you find (the likes of Themba) Zwane doing well because he (Sirino) brings them to the game. His movement off the ball, his passing, and sometimes he sees the gaps which other players can’t see. Together with Zwane, I think he (Sirino) has been an outstanding player so far,” said Arendse.
However, the Uruguayan will have to wait before making further progress in the PSL this season, as he will be serving his two-match suspension after he was red-carded by referee Victor Gomes during the match between Maritzburg United and Sundowns at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday evening.
“You know Mr Gomes. The less said about him, the better. I’d rather reserve my comment about him,” concluded Arendse.
