The Absa Premiership title for the 2018/19 season is for Mamelodi Sundowns to win, according to the club’s former player Thokozani Mnguni.
The Brazilians increased their chances of defending the title they won last season, after the team moved to the top of the log, following their 3-2 win over Cape Town City last night.
Downs are now on 39 points from the 20 matches played, while Bidvest Wits have moved down to second place on the standings with 38 points from 21 matches.
Orlando Pirates are in third place with 36 points, while Benni McCarthy’s City in fourth, on 33 points.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Mnguni has predicted that coach Pitso Mosimane and his team will go all the way to claim the PSL title in May for a second successive season.
“The league is for Sundowns to win. It’s going to them. Pitso Mosimane has won league titles before and he knows how to do it. He will have a good plan for his team’s matches against other title contenders like Cape Town City, Orlando Pirates and others. The fact that Sundowns have had games in hand has also helped to increase their chances, though I'm aware that games in hand aren't points. I have no doubt that Sundowns will win the league,” said Mnguni.
Downs are scheduled to host Bloemfontein Celtic in their next match, scheduled for the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
