A failure by Kaizer Chiefs to sign Andile Jali during this off-season has led to the disappointment of former club midfielder, Junior Khanye.
The Bafana Bafana international midfielder has been one of the players that Khanye had wished would join Chiefs for the new season.
However, the former Orlando Pirates midfield ace has since signed a lucrative five-year contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, despite also being heavily linked with Amakhosi on his return from Belgium.
Speaking to the Siya crew, Khanye confirmed his disappointment at the failure by his former club to sign Jali, who is one of the top central midfielders in Mzansi at present.
“Chiefs have to sign players, and they don’t need to sign just any players available, but quality players. I’m surprised that Sundowns signed Andile Jali ahead of Chiefs. I would have loved it if Chiefs were the ones who signed Jali. I am very disappointed that the deal didn’t happen. Chiefs won’t win anything again (in the new season) if things continue this way for the team, the way I see it. With the team they are currently having, they won’t win anything. Chances of them winning anything are rare. I would love to see them winning something, and in order to achieve that they need to beef up the squad with quality young players and the experienced ones,” said Khanye.
The former crowd-puller has suggested an overseas-based potential marquee signing that Chiefs should attempt to bring back to the PSL.
“I am very disappointed that Chiefs have failed to sign Jali, and I am now asking, ‘Can Chiefs bring (Thulani) Serero back (to Mzansi). Can’t they get Serero then?’ Chiefs need quality players. I had Vicent Pule in mind as one of the players (who) Chiefs need, but they have also missed out on him as well. I am very disappointed,” added Khanye.
