Steve Komphela is deserving of a chance to continue as the head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, according to the club's former defender, Rodney ‘Danger’ Thobejane.
The pressure on Komphela is continuing to mount, following Chiefs’ loss to Chippa United. Amakhosi lost 1-0 to Chippa in their Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening.
With the Soweto giants preparing to travel to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium for their game against a resurgent Platinum Stars, for their next league game, Thobejane has urged the fans to give Komphela more time.
“In my opinion, Steve is doing his best to get the results for Chiefs. Chiefs are playing good football and the only thing that is missing from the team is scoring the goals. That is the only thing holding Chiefs (back).
"I know that Steve is a good coach. He must work very hard with the frontline on how to score goals. I still believe that he is a good coach. Chiefs are playing well, it’s just that in football a team can play well all they want but if the results are not forthcoming people forget about everything else that happened during the 90 minutes.
"No matter how good a team can be over 90 minutes, if the results are not there, performance counts for nothing. That is the problem with Kaizer Chiefs at the moment,” said Thobejane.
Thobejane suggests that Chiefs should consider reinforcing the squad in the January transfer window.
“They should reinforce the squad no matter what the situation may be. They need to add two strikers at least, and maybe one defender on top of that as a back-up,” concluded the former centre back.
