Official records state that Jayiya last played a professional match in November 2018, when he came on as a sub in Chiefs’ 1-0 win over Black Leopards.
Since then, the 30-year-old has been on a hiatus, where he took time out to focus on himself and pursue his studies.
Now, speaking to Soccer Laduma edition 1198, the former Cape Town City star says he is hungry to play the game he simply regards as a hobby.
“I’ve been out of football for about 18 months. It’s been a challenge, but sometimes you take the challenge and make it an opportunity to do something else and focus on yourself. I initially wanted to take a break from football and focus on me and I did that. Now I am just hungry to play again.
While he is keen on rekindling the career that once showed so much promise, ‘Bongo’ has revealed he is not desperate and is waiting to make the move to the right team.
“I have not gone out to look for a club as yet, but if a club wants me, then I don’t mind going. It’s what the break was there for. Because if you think about it, me and some players out there are the same. There are some players who have not played for more than 18 months, but they are on a team’s payroll. Me and them are quite the same. It’s just that they have been training week in and out with a team and I have been training alone. It doesn’t make much of a difference. So, if a team comes with an offer… I’ve always said it’s not about the money, it’s about the hunger to play. That’s the main thing. That’s what’s pushing me right now. I just want to play, no matter what team it is. I just want to compete, play and just enjoy myself again,”Jayiya added.
