After their 1-0 loss to Brisbane Roar, Perth Glory will welcome the arrival of Wellington Phoenix at the Nib Stadium looking to atleast move within the top half of the table with a much-needed victory.
The Urban Warriors have not quite been consistent this season and tonight's clash with Maritzburg United will be a tussle between ninth and 10th place, who are set to derail each other on the PSL standings.
Manchester United manager, David Moyes, is under tremendous pressure to deliver the goods as he comes off the foot of a 1-0 home defeat to his old side, Everton. The Red Devils are up against Newcastle United who also lost their last game, and will provide a stern test for the champions who are yet to hit top form under the Scottish mentor.
The talk of the weekend will without doubt be the Telkom Knockout final clash between Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars. The two teams will once again come face-to-face in yet another cup final at the Mbombela Stadium with Pirates looking to avenge their MTN8 defeat, and Dikwena on the other hand will have a second trophy in their cabinet this season if they can swim past the 'Ghost's ship.
Title-favourites Arsenal have had one of the best starts to the EPL campaign thus far, and command a comfortable four-point lead at the top of the table and could extent this to seven if they beat Everton at the Emirates Stadium
If you are a betting person, here are tips ahead of the fixtures brought to you by Soccer 6 and our in-house journalist, David Minchella.
PERTH GLORY V WELLINGTON PHOENIX
League position: Perth 7th and Wellington 9th
Useful facts: In this relatively obscure fixture in the Australian A-League, seventh place Perth take on struggling Wellington at the Nib stadium. Wellington haven’t won a league game this season while the Glory are no great shakes themselves. Don’t expect a classic in this clash.
David Minchella: Draw.
AJAX CAPE TOWN V MARITZBURG UNITED
League position: Ajax 9th and United 10th
Useful facts: Ajax have recovered nicely after a disappointing start to the campaign and are slowly moving up the standings. Maritzburg have lost their last three matches played, which could mean Ajax will be favourites in this clash in the Mother City.
David Minchella: Ajax home win. They look in much better form now.
MANCHESTER UNITED V NEWCASTLE UNITED
League position: Manchester United 8th and Newcastle 6th
Useful facts: United need a flurry of wins in the league to really get the defence of their title up and running. Their form at Old Trafford hasn’t been as dominant as that seen in years gone by. This means impressive Newcastle might fancy their chances when they visit English football’s most successful team.
David Minchella: United have struggled in the league, but I think they’re close to finding their best form. Win for the Red Devils.
PLATINUM STARS V ORLANDO PIRATES
League position: Stars 3rd and Pirates 16th
Useful facts: In this Telkom Knockout Final, Stars take on Pirates in what will be a repeat of the MTN8 Final which Dinaledi won on penalties. Bucs will no doubt be out for revenge whereas Stars will be seeking their second trophy of the season. Expect a very competitive clash.
David Minchella: Pirates win. They’ll badly want to win at least one final this season.
ARSENAL V EVERTON
League position: Arsenal 1st and Everton 5th
Useful facts: In what is sure to be the game of the day in England, the fabulous Arsenal entertain Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are playing passing football that even the most cynical football observer would struggle not to drool over. However, Everton aren’t too shabby themselves, meaning this could be an absolute humdinger in London.
David Minchella: Arsenal will win with Aaron Ramsey scoring a goal as well.
