We preview both Absa Premiership fixtures and Orlando Pirates’ final Group A CAF Champions League game, ahead of the weekend’s round of football action.
In what is a do-or-die game for the Buccaneers in the Champions League, Pirates will be hosting Al Ahly at the Orlando Stadium. Who is your money on?
Meanwhile, on the domestic front, Moroka Swallows will be up against Maritzburg United, with AmaZulu hosting SuperSport United. Who do you think will win?
Kaizer Chiefs will be at home, against Platinum Stars, with coach Stuart Baxter targeting all three points on offer in front of the home fans. What is your prediction?
Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits will lock horns at Loftus Stadium, in what promises to be an action packed affair, while Polokwane City go in search of their first points of the season when they welcome Ajax Cape Town.
If you are a betting person, here are tips ahead of the fixtures brought to you by Soccer 6 and guest predictor, Platinum Stars midfielder, Robert Ng’ambi.
MOROKA SWALLOWS V MARITZBURG UNITED
League position: Swallows 6th and United 13th
Useful facts: Lerato Chabangu is showing some great form in the heart of midfield for Swallows, and is a real influence in how the club like to play. This means United will have to be at their best when they travel away to face the Dube Birds.
Robert Ng’ambi: This could be a tight one, so let me say a draw.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS V WITS
League position: Downs 3rd and Wits 4th
Useful facts: Sundowns have been playing some lovely attacking football and credit must go to Pitso Mosimane for the role he’s playing. However, Wits have a squad packed with talent, meaning this could be the game of the day in the PSL.
Robert Ng’ambi: Sundowns win. They’ve been playing well.
AMAZULU V SUPERSPORT UNITED
League position: AmaZulu 2nd and United 1st
Useful facts: Craig Rosslee has enjoyed a successful start to the new campaign and he will be hopeful of building upon that. Usuthu will have the chance to continue their good record when they take on SuperSport at home. This could be an interesting clash in Durban.
Robert Ng’ambi: I’ll go for a draw.
KAIZER CHIEFS V PLATINUM STARS
League position: Chiefs 5th and Stars 7th
Useful facts: In another potentially mouth-watering clash, Chiefs take on Platinum Stars in this Absa Premiership encounter. Chiefs looked back to their best in their good showing against Maritzburg United recently. Stars will no doubt relish taking on the Glamour Boys.
Robert Ng’ambi: It’s got to be a win for Stars.
POLOKWANE CITY V AJAX CAPE TOWN
League position: Polokwane 16th and Ajax 14th
Useful facts: In a clash in which both struggling teams will be targeting securing all three points, City welcome Ajax to Polokwane. The recent departure of coach Duncan Lechesa means City are in some disarray. The Urban Warriors might be slight favourites in this tie.
Robert Ng’ambi: Ajax win.
ORLANDO PIRATES V AL AHLY
League position: Pirates 2nd and Al Ahly 1st (both in Group A)
Useful facts: Pirates must get the win and then hope that AC Leopards drop some points away to Zamalek, if they’re to reach the semi-finals of the African Champions League. This could be a memorable clash for Bucs as they chase that second star.
Robert Ng’ambi: Pirates win.
