SAFA Lambasted For Delay In PSL Football Return

The South Football Association (SAFA) has been lambasted for the delay in the return of PSL football.

There has been confusion as to when the 2019/20 season will resume, while it has seemed that the PSL and SAFA have failed to reach an agreement in their discussions.

In their latest official statement last week, SAFA said they support that football should resume on the first week of August ‘upon full compliance from the National Soccer League’, and this was after the PSL chairman Irvin Khoza announced during his press conference that the league has submitted the dates to SAFA about the re-start of the season.

Football administrator, Peter Koutroulis, has blamed SAFA for the delay after it was announced that the referees would need until the first week of August to be fit and ready for matches.

“You know what the biggest problem is? Dr Irvin (Khoza) has tried everything, and now how can SAFA not be on the same page? I don’t understand it. The PSL has done everything – it did the checks and has done things according to the Minister of Sport –and now SAFA is talking about the referees. The referees are not soccer players and they don't need a lot of time to be fit. A referee can be fit in one week,” said Koutroulis.

In discussing the matter on his official Twitter account last week, former referee Ace Ncobo disputed the statements about the match officials by confirming that they are ready.
