Full Time: Tuks 2-0 Celtic
Date: 14 September 2013
Venue: Tuks Stadium
Goals from Atusaye Nyondo and Geoffrey Massa handed the University of Pretoria their first win in the Absa Premiership as they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 at Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Nyondo and Massa were both making their debuts for Tuks and what a day it proved to be for them as they picked up the University side’s first three points in the 2013/14 league campaign.
For Clinton Larsen’s men it was their second loss in the league in a match that they largely dominated.
Celtic certainly started the brighter of the two teams and Ruzaigh Gamildien forced the Tuks keeper into a fine save as early as the third minute.
The Phunya Sele Sele were really dictating terms, but it was at the other end where we saw the goals coming, very much against the run of play.
In a matter of two minutes Celtic saw themselves trailing by two goals.
First, in the 16th minute some poor decision making by Patrick Tignyemb saw him rush off his line to try and collect a ball on the left-side of his box, but Nyondo got to the ball first and cleverly dinked it over the keeper to give his side the lead, 1-0.
Two minutes later and Tuks doubled their lead through a wonder strike from Massa who fired a 30-yard thunderbolt free-kick into the top corner of the net, 2-0.
Thereafter, it was all Celtic and Joel Mogorosi should really have pulled a goal back in the 39th minute, but he fired his shot right at the keeper from close range.
The second 45 saw Celtic on top as well, but poor finishing and some stubborn defence saw Tuks keep a clean sheet.
The best chance of the half fell to Musa Nyatama in the 52nd minute when he found himself through on goal and with just the keeper to beat, but Washington Arubi produced a great one-on-one save to deny him.
The loss will really hurt Larsen and his men as they will feel it was a game they should have won.
