FIFA Slap Mathoho With Extended Ban & A Fine
Stuart Baxter is likely to call up a new player for the upcoming clash with Burkina Faso, with FIFA believed to have given Erick Mathoho an extended ban following his red card against Cape Verde.
According to Siya sources, FIFA have slapped ‘Tower’ with an extra one-game ban following his kick off the ball on an Cape Verdean opponent, as well as giving him a fine of an unknown amount.
Baxter called up the Kaizer Chiefs man while he waited for FIFA’s decision after the hearing earlier this week on the 28th, but it now looks as though he will have to pick up another player – most likely a centre back – to join up with the team when they go into camp in the next few days.
FIFA’s decision means that Mathoho will now miss two games through suspension.
It remains to be seen who Baxter will call-up to replace the 27-year-old, while there has also been no confirmation of whether Bafana will play a friendly next month after their World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso.
Bafana will start assembling for camp tomorrow in Johannesburg.
