Davids Throws Gauntlet To Chiefs: It’s In Their Hands
Fadlu Davids Knows CAF Qualification Is In Chiefs' Hands
Fadlu Davids knows that reaching the CAF Confederation Cup is in Kaizer Chiefs' hands, but admits that trying to do so is Maritzburg United’s priority prior to the Nedbank Cup final.
Maritzburg missed a chance to secure continental football next season as they were beaten 2-0 by the Glamour Boys last week, although could still achieve the impressive feat if results go their way on the final day of the season.
The Team of Choice face Golden Arrows on May 12th as they look to solidify their place in the club’s history with their highest ever points tally and highest ever league position, and qualifying for the CCC would be an added bonus for the young coach.
He told the club’s official website this week, “It’s important now to focus on the league, because we have one game left, and not to ‘be in Cape Town’. To be on the pitch at Harry Gwala against Golden Arrows, to put up a performance against them.
“Of course it is a historic season for us, we’re really proud of the players, having achieved a minimum fifth position. It’s not in our hands now, it’s in Kaizer Chiefs' hands, we will try to win the last game against Arrows, that’s for sure. If Chiefs win they qualify in third for the Confederation Cup.”
Chiefs, who have a two-point lead over Maritzburg, face Ajax Cape Town on the final day of the season knowing that a loss or defeat would give their CAF rivals the upper hand.
