Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Fabian McCarthy, believes there is no need for coach, Steve Komphela, to make drastic changes to his team but would like to see Hendrick Ekstein given a chance.
McCarthy believes that Komphela won’t be doing too much tinkering with the squad in the near future as he looks to establish himself at the club but has indicated that he is likely to introduce new blood slowly but surely.
“I’d say in central midfield as future cover for Yeye, give the Ekstein boy a chance. He might not have the same physique in terms of endurance and technique but, as a box-to-box player, he can do the job,” McCarthy told Soccer Laduma.
“Don’t rush him and let him act as cover behind Maluleka. Look, Chiefs’ youngsters must be on their toes so that, when the opportunity comes, they grab it.”
“Komphela won’t make drastic changes. He won’t throw Ritchie, Karuru and Ekstein into the same match for example. Steve will take one or two risks but, for now, he’s not thinking long-term. He is thinking short-term to secure his long-term future,” he added.
