Booth: Tau Epitomises Modern-Day Football

A former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns player says Percy Tau was well worth his PSL accolades this season and feels he represents the progression of "modern-day football".

Sundowns star Tau walked away with the biggest individual awards at the PSL's end-of-season gala on Tuesday, bagging the Football of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards.

The South Africa international also shared the Golden Boot honour with Polokwane City's Rodney Ramagalela, with both having scored 11 goals in the top flight campaign.

Ex-Sundowns defender Matthew Booth has applauded Tau's performances this season, as well as his eye for goal when ultimately playing from the wing, instead of a traditional striker.

"For an inverted winger, or sometimes even an out-and-out winger, (11 goals) is not that bad," Booth told the Siya crew.

"Even [Rodney] Ramagalela played as an inverted winger, and I think that's a sign of modern-day football, where the traditional No.9s have been taken out of the game really.

"So I don't think it was such a bad goal haul for him (Tau), but I feel, obviously, (Sundowns) need a natural striker to step up to the plate and score 15, 20 goals on a regular basis.

"But I think he has been fantastic and I think the top four attackers at Sundowns can cause chaos."
