Middendorp: Chiefs Should’ve Beat Pirates, Sundowns & City…
Ernst Middendorp says that he was disappointed to drop points against Orlando Pirates over the weekend, stating that it was another game that they deserved to win.
The Glamour Boys suffered narrow defeats at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City last month either side of victories over Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu, and on Saturday threw away a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 in the Soweto Derby.
Now, following Sunday’s results, Middendorp’s side finds themselves in seventh place after two-thirds of the Absa Premiership season, but the German is more worried by the results than the performance of his side.
As quoted by the club’s official website, the coach said, “I am disappointed with the result, but I am certainly not disappointed with the way we played. Compliments to my team.
“We should have had more drive to score that second goal, especially as there was some confusion in the Pirates camp after our goal and we should have exposed that.
“We again lost points in a game we should have won… The same happened in our recent outings against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City. We were also the better side in those matches, but we were unable to collect the three points.”
While the club’s direct focus now will be avoiding the potential banana skin of The Magic FC on Sunday, Middendorp also has eyes on the remainder of the league campaign, saying, “We just try to win every game, home and away. The season is far from finished. We will see some surprising results in the next few months.”
