Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp felt some his players might have switched off after looking at Jose Ali Meza's injury in the first half.
The Team of Choice were unable to move clear of the bottom-two slots in the DStv Premiership after 2-0 defeat to the Buccaneers at Orlando Stadium.
Middendorp was forced into a first-half change when Meza was forced off with an injury, which the coach felt might have distracted his side after a promising start.
"We started definitely in a very good way and we should have processed it in a way to have a lead at least," Middendorp told SuperSport after the game.
"Crucially, everyone was looking at the injury of Meza and that made the players switch off a bit.
"Second half, I would like to see the situation with the penalty that should have been given. Two or three times we had a tap in but we want to destroy the net. Very clear opportunities. And then unfortunately both goals were given from our side.
"Sometimes it's strange. Even first half in the end we are standing around we are not really having a clear mindset. We probably had a little bit of complacency and that's what we have to realise after this game. We must come back to a one hundred percent level as a team. Crucial game on Friday against Baroka and we start again."
