Kaizer Chiefs will be without Erick Mathoho for their final game of the Absa Premiership season this weekend, with the defender suffering a concussion in their last match.
‘Tower’ had to be taken out of the game against Platinum Stars last weekend after a collision with Dikwena’s Bongi Ntuli and it has now been confirmed that he will play no part against Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
The Amakhosi’s head physiotherapist, David Milner, explained that the 27-year-old will not be available, telling the club’s official website, “Tower suffered a concussion during the fixture against Platinum Stars last week. We observed him after the collision. We gave him a few minutes in the second half but had to substitute him as a precaution.”
Meanwhile, the club’s injury list – which includes Sibusiso Khumalo, Brilliant Khuzwayo and Kgotso Moleko – grew by one more player after Siyanda Xulu picked up a groin strain, ruling the defender out of the encounter with the Clever Boys. The news will come as a blow to the centre back as he could have been seen as Mathoho’s replacement.
In other news, Khumalo is ‘still struggling with his knee injury’ according to Milner, while he is ‘happy with Khuzwayo’s progress to full fitness’ as the shot-stopper looks to return ahead of next season.
Chiefs host Wits at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 15h00.
