Kaizer Chiefs defender, Erick Mathoho, was omitted from last night's squad due to selection reasons, not because he’s carrying an injury.
The 24-year-old didn’t even make the bench as the Amakhosi went on to lose 1-0 to Mpumalanga Black Aces last night, relinquishing their spot on top of the PSL.
However, while it was presumed that the defender had been left out due to injury, it has since been revealed to the Siya crew that it was an optional choice to leave him out, not a forced out.
The defeat saw Chiefs slump to their second home defeat in a row in the league, giving Mamelodi Sundowns the opportunity to go three points clear of the defending champions.
In those two games, Stuart Baxter’s side have conceded two late goals, despite dominating proceedings, being punished for not converting their own chances.
Baxter’s team now have to make sure they bounce back this weekend in the Nedbank Cup tie against SuperSport United as they look to keep up that title defence, before turning their focus to making sure they get back on top of the PSL.
