Tinkler: The CAF CC Is A Hindrance
Eric Tinkler Has Admitted To The CAF Confederation Cup Being A Hindrance In Their League Run
SuperSport United head coach, Eric Tinkler, has admitted that their upcoming CAF Confederations Cup fixtures are going to be a hindrance in their league form struggle.
The Tshwane giants are currently battling for form in the Absa Premiership, lying at 12th place on the league standings, three points away from the relegation zone.
Speaking after their 2-0 defeat to Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium, Head Coach Tinkler revealed that their CAF Confederations Cup campaign could not have kicked off at a worse time, adding that their focus right now is mainly on the league.
“I have been saying that it was a hindrance before, this was always a concern for us, hence the fact that we needed to give the guys a break as much as we possibly could and I think it did work, (because) we went through a spell where I thought that we were really poor,” Tinkler told the media.
“There was no real motivation and no real confidence and I see that now in the team and obviously a poor result can change all of that, so, obviously the Confed for us has to be not even in the mindset right now, it has to be the league, it is purely the focus. It is very difficult, we’ve seen it, anybody can beat anybody, there is very little difference from the bottom to the top, it is all about who pitches on the day,” he added.
