Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler said his plan to overcome Chippa United worked perfectly.
Goals from Mpho Makola and Sifiso Myeni handed the Buccaneers a 2-0 win over Chippa in a league match at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
“We started very well and what we had planned paid off,” said Tinkler.
“I think it was important for us.
“We knew they were going to come really defensively against us, we needed to spread them wide and that’s what we did.
“Our movement was really good in the first half.
“We got the two goals.
“We got the first one very quickly which was important. It is also what I requested, that we start nice and lively against them.
“I knew in the second half we would start to tire, that would only be normal.”
Tinkler, though, despite his side’s commanding performance, felt his side could have won by more goals, especially considering the golden scoring chances striker Kermit Erasmus wasted.
“I thought that we could have won this more comfortably,” added the Buccaneers coach.
“We had three or more chances in the second half.
“I felt sorry for Kermit, he had two great opportunities, it would have been good for him to get on the score sheet.
“Overall, though, I am happy to get the result.
“It was always going to be a difficult one, particularly after the derby.”
