Erasmus Inspires Pirates Win

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Platinum Stars 0-3 Orlando Pirates

Date: 16 December 2013

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

An inspired first half performance from Kermit Erasmus saw the striker create three goals in the opening 45 as Orlando Pirates beat Platinum Stars 3-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Monday afternoon.

It was a blistering start from the visitors who were on the attack from the first whistle.

Pirates created their first chance on goal in the second minute as a left wing cross from Oupa Manyisa was met by Ayanda Gcaba, but his header from six-yards out went over the crossbar.

Three minutes later, however and the Buccaneers did find the back of the net as Thandani Ntshumayelo turned home a powerful driven low cross from Erasmus on the right, 1-0.

Stars had their first effort on goal in the seventh minute as Mogakolodi Ngele tried his luck from long range, but he saw his low attempt sail narrowly wide of the target.

Two minutes later and Pirates were on the attack again as Erasmus found the back of the net, but his goal was disallowed because he was in an off-sides position.

In the 17th minute Erasmus turned provider again as he broke down the left flank and supplied a pin-point pass for Manyisa to slide home form only a couple of yards out, 2-0.

In the 33rd minute Erasmus was at it yet again as he drove forward, occupying two defender, before playing Daine Klate into space 14-yards out from goal and he made no mistake with a clinical finish, 3-0.

The Buccaneers led 3-0 at the break.

The start of the second 45 was not as exciting as the opening stanza and chances on goal were few and far between.

Erasmus had the first effort on goal from just outside the box in the 50th minute, but he saw his timid shot easily saved by the keeper.

The next effort on goal only came in the 68th minute and it was, of course, Erasmus who saw his 20-yard shot touched around the post by the fingertips of the goalkeeper.

Two minutes later and Erasmus was at it again as he broke behind the Stars defence and drove into the box, but again he was thwarted by the keeper who pushed his powerful 16-yard shot over the crossbar.

Stars did not really threaten in attack until the 81st minute when Senzo Meyiwa produced a good save to deny Ngele from 25-yards out.

Neither team could find another goal as the match drew to a close and the Buccaneers walked away with all three points.
