Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Ejike Uzoenyi, has been called up to Nigeria's World Cup squad.
The 26-year-old, who was not in Stephen Keshi’s initial squad for the prestigious football tournament, has been called to replace Elderson Echiejilein the Super Eagles side.
Echiejile has been ruled out for at least two weeks after suffering a muscle tear in Nigeria’s warm up game against Greece last week.
Uzoenyi was one of the star performers for Nigeria during the 2014 African Nations Championship in South Africa earlier this year.
He helped the side finish third in the tournament with his impressive performances. The player was snapped up by Sundowns soon after the tournament.
Ejike was named the 2014 CHAN’s Player of the Tournament, and has been playing for Nigeria Premier League side, Enugu Rangers, on loan from Sundowns.
Uzoenyi is the second player representing Sundowns at the World Cup. Sundowns defender, Rashid Sumaila, is part of the Ghana squad, alongside Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda.
