Funeral Details For Edzai Kasinauyo
Edzai Kasinauyo’s Funeral Details Have Been Confirmed
Football agent and former professional soccer player, Edzai Kasinauyo, will be laid to rest this weekend.
Kasinauyo passed away at a Johannesburg hospital on Friday last week, after succumbing to illness. He was 42 at the time of his passing.
During his time as a professional footballer, before he retired and became an agent, Kasinauyo played for Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Hellenic and Moroka Swallows in Mzansi’s top tier.
His friend, former teammate and countryman, Edelbert Dinha, says he lost a ‘brother’ in Kasinauyo.
“I met Edzai when we were playing for the under-16s (Zimbabwe) and we started chatting. From there, we never stopped talking. We played in Zimbabwe – for different clubs. We were still in touch.
“He came to South Africa and played for Cape Town Spurs. I also came to South Africa and played for Seven Stars. We kept in touch. Our relationship grew more. It went from being friends to becoming brothers.
“From there – to playing for the national team – it was just a blessing. We had known each other from (a) long time ago. We both came to Jo’burg when he was playing for Swallows and I was playing for (Orlando) Pirates. So the relationship never stopped until the day he passed on,” said Dihna.
The former Bucs midfielder has confirmed that he will be flying out to Zimbabwe for Kasinauyo’s funeral this weekend.
“It was Friday (June 16) and we – as the Shumba Football Development – were playing a game against Rosina (Sedibane). I got a call from Ian Gorowa, who is another friend of mine. He told me that Edzai is no more.
“I couldn’t even wait for the game to finish. I know that he (Gorowa) would never lie. I was with Innocent Chikoya and I told him to take over (the coaching). I was shocked. I went to the hospital and was told that it was true. I had been crying from Pretoria to Jo’burg (on the way to the hospital).
“He will be laid to rest on Saturday,” concluded Dinha.
Soccer Laduma extend heartfelt condolences to family and friends of Kasinauyo, during this difficult time of bereavement.
