Maritzburg End Galaxy's 8-Match Unbeaten Run

DStv Premiership

Result: TS Galaxy 0-2 Maritzburg United

Date: 20 March 2021

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Maritzburg United lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Maritzburg came flying out the blocks and in the opening minutes, Thabiso Kutumela found a toe poke to set Jose Ali Meza through on goal and the striker forced a save from Heugh at the near post.

While Galaxy were unable to fashion an opening, Maritzburg's Riyaaz Ismail delivered from the left and Rae headed at goal but his effort was tame and straight at the keeper.

After 11 minutes, a quick corner was taken by Kutumela who linked up with Tlolane and received the lay-off back before curling his right foot effort from outside the box just wide of the upright.

With 20 minutes gone, Kutumela played in Tlolane who cut back onto his left and curled a strike just over the crossbar. Claasen then delivered deep to the far post and Kutumela made connection with a side foot volley but Heugh tipped it away for a corner.

Shortly before the interval, Meza’s clever back heel put Claasen in down the left hand by-line who cut it back for Morgan to strike first time but he dragged his right footed effort wide.

With 16 minutes left, Shandu played in Hlongwane who chopped back onto his left foot and rifled a left foot shot that hit the underside of the bar and nestled inside the post.

The result was wrapped up with ten minutes to go as Daylon Claasen played in Kutumela, who finished clinically into the bottom right-hand corner for all three points.
