Unbeaten Swallows Move Top Of The Table

DStv Premiership

Result: Swallows FC v TS Galaxy

Date: 21 November 2020

Venue: Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium

Swallows FC moved top of the DStv Premiership standings despite playing to a goalless draw on Saturday evening.

Swallows should have been ahead after seven minutes when Ruzaigh Gamildien broke clear on goal, but the forward was unable to beat Wensten van der Linde in a one-on-one situation.

Galaxy, meanwhile, struggled to get their attacking game going in the early stages of the first half but they did show signs of their wing threat on occasions.

Wayde Lekay, who missed a penalty against Kaizer Chiefs, nearly got the opener with Galaxy's first chance on 25 minute but he sent his header wide from a corner.

The visitors were presented with another opening five minutes later as Lekay slipped Nation Ndlovu through on goal, but the midfielder was unable to profit with only Virgil Vries to beat.

Swallows were unlucky not to enter the break a one-goal lead after Gamildien saw his looping header crash against the crossbar with Van de Linde well beaten.

The second half became an affair of missed chances as Lekay had goal-bound effort cleared away while Swallows were let down by their decision-making in the final third.

Swallows coach Brandon Truter responded with a double change for the final 30 minutes, as Thabo Mosadi and Moeketsi Makhanya replaced Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Zaphaniah Mbokoma.

Unfortunately, neither side could find a winning goal in the latter stages of second half as the spoils were shared on the night, which pushed Swallows top of the table.
