Swallows Boost Survival Hopes With Impressive Comeback Win

Swallows FC gave their survival hopes a massive boost after rallying back from two goals down to defeat Baroka FC 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

DStv Premiership

Result: Swallows 3-2 Baroka FC

Date: 24 April 2022

Venue: Dobsonville Stadium

The Birds were without striker Ruzaigh Gamildien, as Mwape Musonda and Keletso Makgalwa were recalled to form a front three with Monnapule Saleng while Baroka brought back Evidence Makgopa.

Dylan Kerr's charges had a bright start as Musonda came close to giving them the lead in the tenth minute with a header that hit the upright after a cross by Grant Margeman.

However, Bakgaga broke the deadlock ten minutes later courtesy of a free-kick by Sekela Sithole.

Kgoloko Thobejane's men retreated in numbers in the latter stages of the second stanza as they contained Swallows and went to the halftime break with a slender lead.

Baroka had a perfect start in the second stanza after Richard Mbulu doubled their lead four minutes after the restart with a strike in the box after he was setup by Makgopa.

Kerr made a tactical change after that as Musa Nyatama replaced Givemore Khupe and Nyatama made an immediate impact, as just after the hour-mark, he setup Musonda, who pulled a goal back for Swallows.

Musonda and Nyatama combined to great effect again for the Birds just a minute later, as the Zambian levelled matters and completed his brace with another strike in the box.

Swallows were threatening to get the winner in the latter stages as Nyatama was denied by the post 17 minutes before time with a strike from range.

Kerr made another tactical and attacking change in the last seven minutes as Fawaaz Basadien replaced Yagan Sasman and the move paid off as Nyatama eventually snatched the winner a couple of minutes later.

Swallows moved up to five points clear of bottom side Baroka in 14th spot.
