Bafana Midfielder Rescues Sekhukhune

Golden Arrows once again allowed a lead in to slip as rookies Sekhukhune United came from behind to force a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.

DStv Premiership

Result: Sekhukhune United 1-1 Golden Arrows

Date: 25 September 2021

Venue: Ellis Park

Bafana Bafana duo Nyiko Mobbie and Yusuf Maart picked out Sekhukhune’s eleven, whereas Arrows named the same stall from their midweek stalemate against AmaZulu.

An energetic start culminated to openings either end with Nkanyiso Madonsela afforded space to drag a shot across goal before Saziso Magawana stung the gloves of Toaster Nsabata.

The chances from in particular Abafana Besthende didn’t dry up and as the last ten minutes to halftime loomed, Knox Mutizwa nodded a telling cross in the area from Mthokozisi Dube wide.

Sekhukhune were tasked to make a substitution with 41 minutes played, which had new signing Sibusiso Hlubi withdrawn and Vusumuzi Mncube dropped into the field of play.

Abafana Besthende aimed to take full control of the encounter as three substitutions at halftime in Nduduzo Sibiya, Velemseni Ndwandwe and Michael Gumede indicated.

It worked nine minutes later as Sibiya played a reverse pass from a quick break-attack straight to an unmarked Gumede to apply a composed one-touch finish past Nsabata.

The breakthrough followed moments after Arrows goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana denied Madonsela the opportunity to get one over his former team.

Abafana Besthende began to look for a cushion strike in the middle of the second period as a move into the final third saw Sibiya play a cutback to Mutizwa, who dragged over.

Babina Noko slowly started to regain momentum and with eight minutes to go drew level from the penalty-spot when Maart showed Mlungwana the wrong way after a foul in the area.

Arrows should’ve had the final say with two quick chances by Gumede and Thabani Zuke at the death, but neither pounced as it finished honours even.
