TTM End Losing Run To Move Out Of Relegation Zone

DStv Premiership

Result: Maritzburg United 0-1 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

Date: 12 February 2021

Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila moved out of the relegation zone with 1-0 win over Maritzburg United in DStv Premiership action on Friday evening.

Maritzburg head coach Ernst Middendorp brought back the experience of Clayton Daniels, Nazeer Allie, Bandile Shandu and Daylon Claasen while TTM recalled Nicholus Lukhubeni alongside rare starts for Thembisani Nevhulamba and Farai Madhanaga.

Thabiso Kutumela had a great chance to give United an early lead in the seventh minute after he was teed up by Judas Moseamedi but his strike was saved by shot-stopper Washington Arubi.

Moseamedi was central again in Maritzburg's attack in the 25th minute after he setup Shandu inside the box but the latter's strike was saved by Arubi.

Vhadau Vha Damani were threatening in the closing minutes of the first stanza, which resulted in the opening goal as Thabo Mnyamane broke the deadlock for the Limpopo side on the brink of half-time with a superb free-kick that found the top corner.

Middendorp's charges were creating chances in the early exchanges of the second stanza but they were let down by their finishing.

Alfred Ngengane came close to doubling the lead for TTM in the last 20 minutes with a header in the centre of the box that was saved by  goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt.

The game was on the edge in the closing minutes, but the Team of Choice were kept at bay by the Tshakhuma defence, who held on in the end to a narrow win that ended their five-game losing run and leapfrogged the Team of Choice in third-from-bottom place by three point.
