Maritzburg United have eased their relegation fears in the DStv Premiership with a 5-1 thrashing of Chippa United on Saturday evening.
Oupa Manyisa was named on the bench for the Chilli Boys after he was unveiled this week, while Thabiso Kutumela was thrown straight into the Maritzburg line-up after Bafana Bafana duty.
After neither side could carve out a serious opening early on, the deadlock was broken on 28 minutes as Maloisane Mokhele gifted the visitors the lead.
The Team of Choice weren't behind for too long as Kutumela raced onto a flick from Bongokuhle Hlongwane before placing the ball beyond Ayanda Mtshali for his eighth goal of the season.
The turnaround was complete three minutes after bagging the equaliser, with Kutumela bagging his second with a superb volley from the edge of the box that left Mtshali with no chance.
Ernst Middendorp's troops came out firing in the second half and were rewarded with a third goal in the 50th minute thanks to Hlongwane's controlled finish into the bottom corner.
While Chippa failed to mount any serious threats after Hlongwane's strike, Maritzburg added a third goal on 80 minutes as Jose Ali Meza played in Tebogo Tlolane who slotted past Mtshali at the near post.
Meza wrapped up the scoring with four minutes left on the clock as Maritzburg move up to 12th spot while Chippa remain in 14th position.
