Swallows Throw Away Two-Goal Lead, Top Scorer Sent Off

Chippa United came from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw against Swallows FC in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

Chippa missed Bienvenu Eva Nga and gave Peter Maloisane a run, while Swallows had new signing Bantu Mzwakali on the substitutes bench and gave veteran Vuyo Mere a return.

It was the visitors who made the perfect start after eight minutes through a clever finish from former Bidvest Wits striker Kgaogelo Sekgota.

The Dube Birds pushed towards a double two minutes later and were rewarded when Ruzaigh Gamildien applied a smart finish with Chippa caught napping.

A comeback seemed on the cards for Chippa a few minutes later from a combination involving Ayabulela Konqobe, but Mokhele Maloisane shot straight at goalkeeper Virgil Vries.

Swallows re-gathered steam and looked for a third soon before the half-hour mark from a corner-kick by Lebohang Mokoena, but Njabulo Ngcobo headed the supply wide of target.

Anthony Laffor looked to make it two goals in two matches for Chippa, but shot straight at Vries before Zaphaniah Mbokoma blazed a clear opening well off target.

The Chilli Boys were given a way back four minutes in the second half as Maloisane drew a penalty from a foul in the area which Laffor converted, while Augustine Kwem came on for Kurt Lentjies.

This fired up the host and within 60 minutes drew level after Kwem pounced on a loose ball inside the area from Sizwe Mdlinzo to beat Vries.

Tampers began to boil over four minutes later on the side of the Dube Birds, as Gamildien earned his marching orders for dissent towards the match officials.

Chances appeared for either side inside the remaining minutes of the match, but a stalemate was how it finished.
