Result: Cape Town City 4-3 Golden Arrows

Date: 23 October 2021

Venue: DHL Stadium

Idumba Fasika, Edmilson Dove and Craig Martin replaced Abubaker Mobara, Terrence Mashego and Abdul Ajagun respectively in the City starting line-up, while Nkosinathi Sibisi was making his 100th appearance for Arrows.

City had the first opportunity in the seventh minute when Martin had a shot on target and Maximilian Mbaeva got down well to collect.

Fagrie Lakay gave City the lead in the 22nd minute. The Citizens won the ball back in the middle and they worked it up quickly to the box. Sibisi and Thabani Zuke tried closing down Martin, who managed to get the ball out to the left to Lakay, who fired past Mbaeva.

Just two minutes later, Eric Tinkler's side doubled the lead. Thabo Nodada played a long ball up the near side. Thami Mkhize received on the edge of the box and Sibisi slipped as Mbaeva came off his line in defence before Mkhize slotted home.

It was beginning to turn into a very one-sided affair. Mbaeva failed to clear a back pass quickly enough and Mduduzi Mdantsane robbed him before putting the ball into the net in a moment to forget for the Arrows goalkeeper.

Martin added the fourth in the 58th minute. City countered straight off an Arrows free kick. Lakay received the ball on the near side and crossed to the far post where Martin was on hand to finish.

Arrows were fighting hard to come back into the game and scored two goals in quick succession to halve the deficit. First, Pule Mmodi finished at the near post from a cross from the right. Then, Sibisi converted the penalty spot after Dlamini had made a reckless challenge in the box.

Abafana Bes'thende made it an interesting finale to the game when Dlamini fired through the legs of the defenders from the far side of the box and into the opposite corner but City clung on for the win.
