Baroka Deny CT City Fourth Spot

DStv Premiership

Result: Baroka 1-1 Cape Town City

Date: 31 January 202

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Cape Town City's winning streak was brought to a grinding halt as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

City were dealt an early blow when Thabo Nodada was stretchered off and replaced by Mpho Makola in the 13th minute.

Soon after, Baroka survived a scare when Denwin Farmer almost put the ball into his own net after a dangerous whipped cross into the box.

City were playing some excellent football. Shortly before the half-hour mark, Mduduzi Mdantsane combined well with Lakay down the right-hand side and the former cut the ball back into the box for Makola, who fired the effort towards the top corner but it was well palmed away by Baroka goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.

Five minutes before the interval, Surprise Ralani curled a ball at the edge of the box for Taariq Fielies but his header just went over the bar.

The Citizens took the lead in the 49th minute. After some slick one-touch football, Mdantsane set up Ralani who finished with aplomb.

Makola then lined up the long-range free-kick and brought a fine save out of Masuluke before Ralani beat the Baroka defence but found the side netting.

And City would be punished for not putting the game to bed when Thuso Mokgale crossed for fellow substitute Richard Mbulu and Terrence Mashego was caught wrong-footed as he put the ball into his own net.

There was some late drama at the full-time whistle as City were upset that Basil Mphahlele's studs-up challenge on Ralani went unpunished.
