AmaZulu Nets Controversial Goal In Draw With CT City

DStv Premiership

Result: AmaZulu 1-1 Cape Town City

Date: 28 November 2020

Venue: Jonsson Kings Park Stadium

AmaZulu striker Lehlohonolo Majoro netted against his former side in controversial circumstances as Usuthu drew 1-1 with Cape Town City.

Usuthu were boosted by the return of Tsepo Masilela, Limbikani Mzava, Thembela Sikhakhane and Talent Chawapiwa while City made only one change, as Abbubaker Mobara took the place of Ioannis-Konstantinos Potouridis.

The hosts had a dream start after they were awarded a controversial penalty in the third minute for a raised foot by Taariq Fielies on Lehlohonolo Majoro, with replays showing the tackle was made outside of the box,

Nevertehless, Majoro no mistake from the spot, firing hom a low shot into the bottom corner to hand Usuthu the lead.

Augustine Mulenga had a chance to double the lead for Ayanda Dlamini's charges on the half-hour mark after going one-on-one with goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh but his low strike was saved by the Dutch goalkeeper with his leg.

Usuthu were made to pay for that miss as Prince Agyemang brought the Citizens back into the game five minutes before the break with a powerful strike past goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha after a through ball by Mobara.

After a slow start in the second stanza, the game came to life just after the hour-mark and Siphelele Mthembu had two big chances just after coming on,  but his low shot was saved by Leeuwenburgh before he went clear a minute later as his shot was blocked by a recovering defence.

AmaZulu were then reduced to ten men in the last 18 minutes after Majoro was shown a straight red card for a lunging tackle from behind on Thamsanqa Mkhize's ankle.

Tashreeq Morris had a chance to snatch the winner for City in the last eight minutes after latching onto a cross at the near post but he guided his first-time shot just wide,.

Usuthu also fancied their chances of finding the winner in the dying minutes despite being a man down but they could not take their chances as the sides settled for a share the spoils, wit AmaZulu going up to ninth while the Citizens moved up to sixth on the table.
