From Waiter To PSL, A Dream Come True For Chippa Star
Dream Come True For Chippa United Midfielder
From working as a waiter and dreaming of playing football while serving Mamelodi Sundowns players at one stage, to playing in the PSL – it all happened for one of the Chippa United stars.
Linda Mntambo has discussed his journey from humble beginnings to stardom. The midfielder has been influential and consistent with his impressive performances for Teboho Moloi’s team, since his arrival at Chippa from Jomo Cosmos in January.
In a discussion on Soccer Laduma Radio’s Big Interview, Mntambo talks about working as a waiter and serving Mamelodi Sundowns players when he was still dreaming of playing professional football.
The player says he was raised by a single mother, who worked to help him get better schooling. After finishing Grade 12 in 2006, he wanted to help out in the family by getting a job.
“In 2007, that’s when I applied for a job at Emperor’s Palace as a waiter. And in that year, Mamelodi Sundowns had won the Absa Premiership and I happened to be a waiter for the event.
“I could not stop dreaming, and I told myself that one day I want to see myself playing in the PSL,” confirms Mntambo.
The player’s former boss and coach at Cosmos, Jomo Sono, has been recently quoted as saying the 28-year-old is the best midfielder in South Africa.
