Gebeto got the equalizer for Wits in the 21st minute as he followed up to pounce after Kennedy Mweene saved Papy Faty's good attempt, but Mweene couldn't hold onto it, and the Ethiopian poacher scored.
Matty Pattison had a long range effort in the 23rd minute but Mweene got down well to stop the shot.
Ten minutes later Pattison had another opportunity just outside the area but this time his shot went wide to the left.
Bongani Zungu had a chance in the 38th minute as the ball was laid back to him by Womé but he skied his shot.
As half-time approached Sundowns had a great chance as Malajila broke free after some good work from Bryce Moon, but Josephs got a good touch to his cross and the ball failed to reach Dové Womé and was cleared.
Wits started well in the second-half and a strong run from Sibusiso Vilakazi four minutes in, saw him break away, but his shot was deflected out for a corner from Mweene.
Khama Billiat got his first goal for Sundowns in the 58th minute, he ran onto a good through ball from Zungu into the box, Josephs got down to stop Billiat's first effort, but the ball bounced free under Josephs, and Billiat scored with his second attempt.
Mweene came to Sundowns rescue in the 75th minute as he dived to his right to stop Gebeto's shot, as Wits came close to scoring the equalizer.
Three minutes later Mweene stopped another cracker, this time a long range effort from Sibusiso Vilakazi, and then saved the follow up from Ryan Chapman, who was ruled off-side.
Zungu could have wrapped it up in the 80th minute as he ran onto a pass from Malajila but his shot from the edge of the box went wide.
Wits had a great chance to level matters in the 88th minute as Mweene was indecisive at a cross and the ball bounced around, but Gebeto's attempt was wayward.
Sundowns were close to getting a third in the 90th minute but Josephs made a brilliant save to stop Malajila's close range effort from a Billiat cross.
Wits continued to push in the referee's optional time and Vilakazi had a chance, but he rushed his shot and it flew over.
With two minutes of injury time left, Vilakazi was close again, but he shot over from in front of goal, after the ball was laid into his path by substitute Benjani Mwaruwari.
