Dladla Fails Doping Test

The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) have confirmed that 34-year-old Kaizer Chiefs player, Josta Dladla, tested positive for the banned stimulant Methylhexaneamine.

The Kaizer Chiefs veteran midfielder underwent a test at the big Soweto Derby against fierce rivals Orlando Pirates on 26 October 2013, and the SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport stated that this is the first positive out of 184 tests conducted from January 2013 to December 2013 in the local football league.

“The use of the banned stimulant, Methylhexaneamine, has become a popular doping product across sporting codes and been the source of numerous doping offences over the past two years.  While doping activity in the domestic football arena appears to be fairly quiet, we are regarding this recent football positive for Methylhexaneamine with caution with the hope that it is not a growing trend in football,” explains SAIDS CEO, Khalid Galant.

Galant also stated that the institute would be taking further action in 2014 in regard to implementing a proactive, anti-doping education program aimed at professional and youth football players, which would explain the dangers of doping and the risks associated with sports supplements use, a program that will be funded by the 2010 FIFA Legacy Trust.

“We’re hoping with this current doping offence that the football authorities take a more collaborative stance on combating doping in football and support our initiatives,” Galant concludes.

Soccer-Laduma has reached out to Kaizer Chiefs for comment on the matter, and will update you on the situation when they respond.
