Platinum Stars are likely to be without star duo, Vuyo Mere and Siphelele Mthembu, when they go into next week’s Telkom Knockout semifinal clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
They have both played a pivotal role for Dikwena so far this season going on to lift the MTN8 trophy earlier this year, and captain, Mere, has been a constant threat from their defence.
However, it seems they will have to do without both players when they take on Kaizer Chiefs on November 23, with the players picking up knocks against Maritzburg United and SuperSport United respectively.
Aubrey Molobi, the club’s PRO, told the Siya crew, “Vuyo went for a scan on Thursday, and now he’s undergoing his rehabilitation. The medical team are working hard so he can play, but we’re planning without him and Mthembu.
“Siphelele has started jogging, which is good news, but we don’t believe they’ll be ready. However, we don’t believe in individual brilliance, we’ll work as a team and we have cover.”
It remains to be seen who will be called upon to replace the duo when they take on the Amakhosi, although Allan Freese will be hoping his side still have enough fire power to make it to their second final of the season.
