Platinum Stars beat Maritzburg United 2-0 on a sweltering afternoon at the Moruleng Stadium, thanks to second-half goals from Henrico Botes and Robert Ng'ambi.

Maritzburg had a great chance to take the lead in the second minute, as Ruben Cloete delivered in a dangerous cross and Siyabonga Mpontshane couldn't hold onto the ball, but Michael Morton shot over with an open goal in front of him.

In the 14th minute, Robert Ng'ambi forced a great diving save out of Shu-aib Walters, as he shot on target from just outside the box.

In the 18th minute Ng'ambi had another chance, but his shot had no power and went straight into Walter's hands.

Two minutes later Dikwena had another great chance to score as Botes broke into the box and laid the ball back, but the Maritzburg defence were up to the task, as they blocked two attempts before Morton was able to clear.

In the 23rd minute it was Walters again who saved Maritzburg as Mduduzi Nyanda broke free down the left and ran into the box and forced another top save from the Team of Choice keeper, as he shot from a tight angle.

In the 27th minute Thokozani Sekotlong had a good chance for Maritzburg and tried to beat Mpontshane, but his shot lacked power and went straight to the Dikwena goalkeeper.

Dikwena had most of the possession in the first-half, with Maritzburg happy to counter, and at half-time it remained goalless.

Dikwena went into the lead in the in the 49th minute as Henrico Botes got the ball, passed his defender, and slotted the ball into the net.

In the 60th minute Ng'ambi made it 2-0 as he ran onto a pass in the box and his first-time shot beat Walters.

In the 80th minute Mogakolodi Ngele tried to make it three, but Walters was able to make the save.

Thamsanqa Mkhize tried to pull one back for Maritzburg in the 87th minute but his header from a set piece flew wide of the goal.

In the 89th minute, Dillon Sheppard shot from a free kick, but Mpontshane made a great diving save to stop the well taken set piece.
