Platinum Stars got the second half of the season off to a fine start as they easily disposed of Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 in their first Absa Premiership clash of the year.

Phunya Sele Sele were never really in the game as their woeful record away from home continued at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Henrico Botes opened the scoring for Dikwena midway through the first half and then set up Robert Ng'ambi in the second to double their advantage.

Nine minutes in Thuso Phala, recently returned from international duty with Bafana Bafana, tried his luck from a free kick but Patrick Tignyemb held his effort.

In the 24th minute the home side got their goal as Botes planted the ball in the top left corner of the goal from close range.

Mogakolodi Ngele looked to increase the advantage with only five minutes of the half remaining but could not beat Celtic stopper Tignyemb.

At the other end Thabo Nthethe forced  Siyabonga Mpontshane into action just minutes before the whistle signalled the end of the first half.

With the second half ten minutes old Dikwena had a chance to extend their advantage from a free kick after Phala was fouled.

The speedy winger picked himself up to deliver the set piece but Patrick Malokase’s shot was well saved by the keeper.

Lerato Manzini had an excellent chance to put his side level but planted his header wide of the goal 70 minutes in.

The game was made safe with just over 10 minutes left to play as Botes turned provider to set up Ng'ambi for the home side’s second.
