Mamelodi Sundowns will have to deal without one of their most senior players this evening as they look to go top of the Absa Premiership, although there is good news on another player.
Both Denis Onyango and Phakamani Mahlambi had to be taken off due to injury as Masandawana missed the chance to reach the league summit over the weekend, with Bidvest Wits holding them to a 1-1 draw to maintain their place at the top.
Tonight though, Pitso Mosimane’s side will go up against fellow challengers, Cape Town City, and it is thought that Onyango was unable to recover in time for the encounter, leaving Mosimane to choose somebody else to start between the sticks.
The Ugandan recently signed a new long-term contract with Sundowns as he committed his future to the club, but it is likely to be either Kennedy Mweene or Reyaad Pieterse that starts against City this evening, with Downs able to leapfrog both Orlando Pirates and Wits into first place.
Meanwhile, Mahlambi is believed to have been deemed fit enough to be in contention for tonight’s vital clash after scoring against his former employers at the weekend, though it remains to be seen whether he will make the starting XI or not.
