The PSL has taken action on the R3 million dispute involving Bloemfontein Celtic and the club’s former player, Patrick Tignyemb.

Tignyemb’s legal representatives had threatened to make life miserable for Celtic after they wrote to SAFA and the PSL to ask for the club’s licence to participate in the 2021/22 season to be revoked.

The lawyers’ actions were a result of the Mangaung club’s failure to pay the Cameroonian goalkeeper the R3 million he is owed for the unlawful termination of his contract by the Free State club in 2019.

The club was ordered by FIFA to pay the money to Tignyemb, while they were also banned from signing new players for two transfer window periods.

Following the threats of potential disqualification from the league, Celtic have finally agreed to pay the money and have instructed the PSL to deduct the money from the club’s monthly grant from the league.

The Siya crew has seen a document from the league’s legal department which was directed to Tignyemb’s lawyers which read as follows:

I attach proof of payment of the sum in question. Unfortunately, these sorts of things (when they are processed before League tribunals) are sorted out pretty quickly. Because the internal process results in payment or automatic deduction.

As this claim was not processed before the League tribunals but rather those of FIFA it was not as simple as that administratively.

But Celtic were happy to instruct the League to make a deduction and payment and the attached is proof of that. So, thanks to Celtic for assisting in that. And thank you to you for drawing the matter to the League’s attention.

It is an international payment so it may take a while to reflect. Please do confirm as soon as you are able to that the money has been received and the matter closed.
