Word reaching the Siya crew is that Orlando Pirates head coach, Roger de Sa, has urged the club to sign Ghanaian striker, Yakubu Mohammed.
It was recently reported by Soccer-Laduma that the 24-year-old could be on the verge of a move to Mzansi, with Pirates, Wits and Maritzburg United all keen to secure the forward’s services.
The crew also revealed this week that the player’s current chairman at Ashanti Gold, Kudjoe Fianoo, would accept the highest bid for the player, possibly opening up a bidding war between the clubs.
A source close to the Ghanaian club have revealed to the crew that AshGold are keen to secure a fee of between R1 million and R2.5 million for last year’s Ghanaian Premier League top scorer, although it remains to be seen how much the interested clubs will be prepared to pay out for him.
However, there have been unconfirmed reports that ‘Yak’ could be set for a medical at Parktown after his side’s last league game this weekend, and at present it seems that Pirates are indeed leading the race to sign him, with De Sa eager to have him as part of his squad next season.
Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will clash on July 27, with the title of 2013 Carling Black Label Cup champions up for grabs.
